Illustrated Shorts

I recently created a couple of comic shorts pairing watercolor illustrations with text. I've finally got my drafting table set up in a way that is practical in my Oakland apartment, and I have been really enjoying myself experimenting with watercolors and dip pens. (neither of these pages actually involves dip pens, but I have been working with them just the same)

I really do love bodysurfing! Feels great! I used paper from one of those really nice Arches watercolor blocks. I got the block as a present a couple years ago from my dad who also loves watercolors and bodysurfing.
...and here is another one, this time set up as a two page spread.....

This one came together in a unusual way. I actually had a number of hand drawings in my sketch book that I had done in this particular style with my brush pen, that I decided could serve as a jumping of point for a short. I also already had the painting of the plant in my sketchbook. I only had to add a couple more illustrations once I figured out where I wanted to go with the text.

COMING TO APE 2009!

My Dear Friends,

I am pleased to announce the impending release of my new comic! I will be showing at APE (Alternative Press Expo) on October 17th and 18th, booth 268!
Stop by for comics, prints, buttons, candy, and whatever else I can dig up around the house!

Here's a synopsis:

The San Lukas Arboretum

Splitting his time equally between his two passions, the Public Library and the San Lukas Arboretum, the upbeat, knowledge hungry San Lukas orphan, Jaremey, has it made... at least from his perspective. But when his home atop the Arboretum' s Banyon tree is threatened by a swarm of disgruntled bees, Jaremey must, with the help of the groundskeeper and her loyal dog, set things straight.

48 pages, black and white

Here are the first six pages! Enjoy!
